2024  |  Branding & Visual Identity

Located in downtown Asheville, Well Played is a board game cafe which serves as a place for friends and family to come together, put down their phones, and connect through friendly competition. Due to the highly successful nature of Well Played’s current and playful brand voice, this rebrand is a refresh of their visual identity which focuses on addressing brand memorability, approachability, and excitement.

Well Played’s new visual identity is built upon an interlocking pattern system made up of eight unique “building blocks.” An integral part of Well Played is their diverse selection of board games, so, each building block is an abstract representation of a classic or contemporary board game. To allow for seamless and infinite tiling, each building block is built on a 4×4 grid system.

In the physical location, the tiling pattern may be used on walls, paper products, merchandise, or any other necessary applications. On menus, larger versions of the building blocks serve as a way for customers to differentiate between the types of menus. Additionally, this provides a simple system if more menus are added in the future.
